Two weeks ago Saturday, October 2nd, We were invited to attend and ovserve the cultural weaving, carving and ivory nut jewelry making at the Pohnrakiet Nahs village with the FSM Vice President's wife and other diplomatic corps. It was an interesting experience to know their culture as We are new to this island.
The Polynesian moved to Pohnpei in 1918 brought by the Japanesse administrator because the island that they used to live in experience drought. Now the Polynesian live side by side with the Micronesian in Pohnpei.
I was overwhelmed with their warm welcome, there were people line up welcoming us and we were given the coconut as a welcome drink. The welcome ceremony consist of Polynesian song, dance and also speech from the chief of the village.
Each of us given this beautiful Mwar-mwar, it smelled wonderful and was a great way to start the day.
And then we were observing the Polynesian making the handycraft, carving and weaving. It was amazing to see how those men and women working really fast. Here are some of the Polynesian's handycraft that we saw that day.
I was intrigued with this woman's costume, she was wearing leaves to cover up her body. I know that for Pohnpeians & Micronesians that knee is sacred so you rarely see Pohnpeian women wearing short but you can see that one is breastfeeding outside her house without cover u her breast or you will notice that she doesn't wear bra underneath her clothes. This is something that I need to dig more, and I have time to learn more about Pohnpeian culture.
That day closed by the farewell dance by the choosed men & woman from the village and everyone are welcome to dance with them. What a day.

the best way to get there is by a taxi...get out from the airport..call a taxi and tell the taxi driver to take you to porakiet handicraft then he will take you there...only cost you one dollar...
